Stay Alive in this Hilariously Explosive Card Game

Exploding Kittens is a popular Kickstarter-funded PC card game, turned into a mobile game, that lets you play Russian Roulette with dangerous kitties. Similar to the original game, Exploding Kittens is a multiplayer game wherein you need to strategize with your cards at hand, and the surprising draw you get from the pile. The rules remain simple: if you draw an Exploding Kitten card, you’re out of the game. The last player remaining wins. Thus, the goal is to not die using your Defuse card and the various other cards that can help you move, delay, and avoid the Exploding Kittens.

These Cats Will Kill You

The premise of Exploding Kittens is easy to understand. The players will need to draw cards until someone draws an exploding kitten from the deck. The one who does get booted out of the game, unless that player has a defuse card to save them. Early in the game, the players will be given seven cards each and a defuse card, which they can use strategically to help them from drawing or becoming victim to the exploding kitten card. In addition to the defuse card, there are also cards which help you skip your turn in drawing a card from the deck. In turn, the player next to you will have to draw two cards. Also, there is a card that allows you to shuffle the deck to decrease the chances of drawing an exploding kitten card. There are lots of action cards in the game that can help you survive the game. Exploding Kittens is a battle royal-esque game that requires clever tactics with every turn and every card you get.

Kitties on Your Phone

The core of Exploding Kittens remains the same, but in this mobile version, you get all-new cool stuff to play with. For one, there are new cards exclusive to the mobile version, including the Slap card which makes another player take any other turns they have left plus one more. There is also the reverse card which will switch the turn order and let you skip drawing a card. The Draw from the Bottom card, meanwhile, lets you draw a card from the bottom of the deck.

Unfortunately, the Attack and Nope cards from the original game were taken out of this version, but it does not take the fun from the game. More so, this version allows cross-platform play between all mobile versions so you can play with others even if they’re on a tablet. Furthermore, since it is a digital version, it allows you to play with other players online. You can play with up to two to five friends or strangers online if you get tired of the single-player campaign. Also, you can take advantage of the in-app purchases to get optional features, such as the additional card decks.

You Need Your Squad for This

Overall, this is a great mobile port to a successful card game project that took little time to be fully funded. In terms of fresh content, however, Exploding Kittens doesn’t please much with its card packs that you have to buy. There aren’t a lot of events that will make you want to come back and play this, either—and the single-player campaign isn’t so challenging. This is mostly a game that meant more for friends who don’t have the physical deck rather than people who want to compete online.
